Acts 28:30-31 NASB
And [Paul] stayed two full years in his own rented quarters and was welcoming all who came to him, preaching the kingdom of God and teaching concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all openness, unhindered.
Have you ever just laid in bed, not able to get up and get on with the day and you just wanted to say that it wasn’t going to happen? Did you ever think to yourself to say to God “Just one more day Lord”? This has largely been my life over the past five years now.
After I moved into the downtown area of my city about four and a half years ago, I began a little thing called ‘Cross Conversion Cassette Tape Transfer Services’. The objective of this was to continue on the work from my home chapel with their sermon tape archives by spreading the ministry across the entire Brethren Assemblies.
It was a success, with Gospel Folio Press being my first client with audio and video tape work that lasted about for about a year and a half. I had found my niche and something that I was good at.
If you are reading this, you likely know that the name had changed to ‘Cross Conversion Media’ as the work had expanded into digitizing film slides and negatives, and eventually turning Super 8 film reels into video files.
This has been a long running ministry for myself, which has worked out tremendously, given how much I struggle with chronic severe depression and anxiety which usually keeps me at home and largely indoors more often than not.
I mention all of this because I understand the discouragement of the believers who are shut-ins and can’t typically make it out to meetings with fellow Christians to enjoy corporate prayer, worship and fellowship. Trust me when I say that I understand how you feel and how you want to return to be among your brothers and sisters in Christ on a regular basis.
In the meantime, have you ever considered that you just might have an important ministry to fulfill from where you are right now? Your circumstances are not a fluke, but you may be viewing your present situation in the wrong light. You, fellow believer, have a ministry to fulfill for the kingdom of God right now.
Cross Conversion Media was born out of feeling useless and forgotten about in God’s bigger picture, and I’m sure that you have been there in that thinking. This ministry has never been mine, but has always been that of God’s blessings to the saints.
It blesses and encourages me when I meet a fellow Christian who has old media that they want modernized, and the smile that comes across their faces when they know that they found their labourer that they’ve been needing for the work.
I always had this ministry loosely based on Galatians 6:2, being that I’m here and available to lighten the load for the believers who are typically busy with the daily ins and outs of life and for churches that don’t usually have someone who has the time and the equipment to digitize their sermon tape archives.
In short, the Lord has enabled me to do something that most others in the church have no idea how to do, to do so for them.
So having said all of this, what is holding you back? It can’t be that you’re mostly confined to your bed for the majority of the day. If you are, the ministry of fervent prayer is lacking today, how about starting there? If you can write, then write encouraging articles based on God’s Word for a site like AssemblyHUB or if you have the gift of encouragement, write an email or make a phone call to a fellow Christian from your church to encourage them in the things of Christ. Fellow shut-in, the possibilities are endless.
You have a ministry to fulfill while you are at home right now. So what are you going to do about it? This wonderful opportunity from the Lord must not be wasted!
